PLANETARIUM of Sofia on "Radio Sofia"

In March 1610 Galileo Galilei published his initial telescopic astronomical observations  in a brief treatise entitled Sidereus Nuncius (Starry Messenger). So, since than16th of March has been proclaimed as Day of Observational Astronomy.

That was the official occasion, because of which I and а representative of AAS(Astronomical Association Sofia) Boryana Boncheva were invited to take place in interview on Radio Sofia on the same date. The topic was hypothetic planetarium in Sofia and in particular - my architectural project of it.
Prehistory of Sofia Planetarium building's attempts:
In the world today there are thousands of planetariums, having large star halls (18-35 m diameter) are hundreds! Near Bulgaria Athens and Thessaloniki have planetariums with large halls. Warsaw opened  a large planetarium in Park Science last year, Brno updated its old planetarium with a new one, larger hall. Belgrade is satisfied with a small planetarium building. Why Sofia remained one of the few European capitals without their "star theater" - a planetarium? Moreover, the Council of Ministers of Republic of Bulgaria was released by Order № 873 of 05.30.1960 on the construction of a planetarium in Sofia, which ordered building a planetarium with the methodological assistance of BAS.

In 1988  Blagoevskata National Astronomical Observatory (occupying a house near the entrance to South Park)  was closed , and in 1992 the City Astronomical Observatory was closed.
In February 1994 NGO Astronomical Association - Sofia, AAC was established in the capital, comprising enthusiastic amateurs and professionals in their cause to promote astronomy in any way - through his popular science magazine "Andromeda", weekly newspaper "Telescope" , sky-observations with telescopes for citizens for free, astro-trips, school-camps, lectures, screenings and workshops. One of the main objectives of the AAS, recorded in its statutes, is endeavoring to build a planetarium with a public observatory in Sofia.

In 2009, on the occasion of International Year of Astronomy, AAS began a massive campaign to promote the idea of building a planetarium in the city. Having the financial support of the Metropolitan  an exhibit "From Earth to the Universe" was exposed  in front of the National Theatre in Sofia in 2010 and in the Art Hall of the National Palace of Culture in 2009. A highlight of it was the project for Astro-complex in Sofia and very soon  the petition "Planetarium in Sofia" was joined by several thousand people.

On a meet with the radio journalist we discussed all these problems and more.
You can find the conversation in this record of the interview.
